Reflections on 20 Years in Professional Service
As we continue through these challenging but prosperous times and reflect back, Don and I realize that the answer to our company’s existence is neither simple nor singular. However, one thing that is common throughout all of our case work is the trust that our clients have in our firm. We cannot thank them enough and never take it for granted.
I believe that we intuitively know the answers that our clients’ “clients” face. The diverse case experience and abundant resources that our firm has developed throughout the thousands of tried cases, has allowed us to grow and develop in many different ways. The interesting fact is that each case is different, but fundamentally the same. Therefore, we can apply different techniques, learned throughout the course of our history, to individual problems as they arise.
While this experience lies within us, we believe that our continued success has to do with “doing well by doing good”. Over the years, as Assignees and Liquidating Trustees, we have liquidated just about everything – from herds of horses to an ammunitions factory to a meat packing plant, to an extensive wine collection, Latin American art and a cell phone tower.
We have also handled a fair share of insolvency related matters for actors, sports celebrities, and prominent business and political leaders. We have evolved enough to have the process down pat. Our firm is unique because it has the systems, facilities and talent in place and we know exactly how to interpret the highest and best use of a company’s assets. Our people understand the numbers and the mechanics behind the laws allowing us to deliver performance based returns. We have seen the evolution and development of the US Trustee System, The Bankruptcy Code and revised bankruptcy laws. It gives me great satisfaction to have been able to maintain our company’s status, growing case by case and far beyond the borders of Florida, while continuing the great relationships that we have with insolvency professionals, lenders, as well as trade and government authorities. Many of whom we consider dear friends.
Personally, success has also come in other forms, such as being appointed to the Florida Bar Committee in 1987 which drafted new law affecting Assignments for the Benefit of Creditors. Also rewarding has been teaching “Alternative to Bankruptcy” with Judge Williamson at the University of Florida Law School as well as being the Vice Chair and a Director of the Florida Board of Auctioneers.
So, as we begin with new codes and laws, we say thanks to all and look forward to the new set of challenges that will face us in the future.
